SANITATION WORKER INJURES SHOULDER USING BRUSH MOWER, GETS ¾ PENSION
Sanitation Worker assigned to Staten Island Lot Cleaning was using a brush mower when it unexpectantly toppled over due to a broken curb. He tore his shoulder and needed surgery, never returning to work. As a result, our office successfully represented him before NYCERS and obtained a ¾ tax free disability Pension. In addition, we have brought a lawsuit against the City of NY and property owner for having a defective and dangerous curb.

The job of firefighter in a place like New York is not always understood by the general public or even other firefighters in other parts of the country. Last December a fire fighter was injured battling a Christmas morning blaze in Buffalo.
The Christmas morning blaze was one of two fires that occurred just before dawn. One firefighter was injured as he was helping put out a fire in an empty building on Goembel Avenue. The fire rapidly spread to the second floor engulfing the building and causing a lot of structural damage to the building. The injured firefighter had to be rushed to in Erie County Medical Center for treatment. The damage to that building was estimated at $20,000. That fire started just before 4:00 AM.
A little over a half hour after the call for that fire, firefighters were alerted to another fire at an occupied building on Hudson Street. That building was damaged severely by the fire. The damage to that building was estimated $150,000. That fire started before 6:00 AM.
That just demonstrates the dangers of being a firefighter in New York. Even on a peaceful day like Christmas, New York firefighters face a constant barrage of dangers and uncertainty.
